VERMILLION - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team won their fourth straight match on Mon., Oct. 17 when they defeated the University of South Dakota, 2-0.
The scoring for UNI started quickly when sophomore Claire Clark found junior Melissa Hagan in the corner of the box for the score.
The Panthers got their second score off of an own goal by South Dakota in the 29th minute.
Hagan led the way for the UNI offensive attack recording four shots with three coming on goal, including her goal in the third minute. Freshmen Nicole Rondeau and Charlotte Jones, and junior Kelsey Dolder each added a shot on goal in the match.
Senior Kala Negus tallied three shots, and juniors Kiki McClellan, Ashley Capone, and freshmen Caitlyn Fuller and Katherine Young each added a shot for UNI.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Potzman and sophomore goalkeeper Erin Zaideman each played a half for the Panthers earning three saves and two saves respectively.
UNI outshot the Coyotes 14-11, held the advantage in shots on goal 7-5, and corner kicks 4-0.
The win gave the Panthers their first four game winning streak since the 2003-2004 season. The streak marks the second time in the 12 year history of the program that UNI has gone on a four game win streak.
UNI (7-7-2, 2-2-0 MVC) will return home for their final home match of the season Weds., Oct. 19 to face off with St. Ambrose University in search of their first ever five game win streak. The match is "Pack the Plex Night". All tickets at the gate will be $1.00. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
