Nowak Leads KT Woodman Heptathlon After Day One

WICHITA, Kan. - University of Northern Iowa senior Olimpia Nowak stands in first place following the opening day of the KT Woodman Classic heptathlon hosted by Wichita State University. Nowak totaled 3,306 points through the first four events to hold a 109-point lead over the rest of the field.

UNI freshman Paige Knodle is in fourth place after the first day of her first collegiate heptathlon. Knodle tallied 2,854 points on Wednesday.

Nowak was the top performer in three of the four events contested on Wednesday, posting the best times in the 100m hurdles (13.86 seconds) and 200m dash (25.17 seconds), as well as the best mark in the shot put (39-00.25). She cleared 5-04.50 (1.64m) for the second-best height in the high jump.

Nowak's 200m dash time was a personal-best effort.

The 100m hurdles were Knodle's strongest event, as she recorded the third-fastest time in 14.30 seconds. Knodle cleared 4-10.50 (1.49m) in the high jump, threw 29-07.50 (9.03m) in the shot put, and finished the day with the fourth-best 200m time at 25.49 seconds.

The heptathlon will conclude on Thursday with the long jump, javelin and 800m. The heptathlon long jump is slated to start at 11:45 a.m. at Cessna Stadium.
