University of Northern Iowa junior Brett Egan has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday.
Egan (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon HS) earned first-team academic all-district honors in District 6. He owns a 3.97 cumulative grade point average with a major in mathematics.
Egan was UNI's top finisher in every cross country meet in which he competed for the 2011 season, placing 12th at the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships. He finished third in the 5,000m at the MVC Outdoor Track Championships and owned a season-best time of 14:39.34.
Egan was named to the MVC's scholar-athlete teams for both cross country and track this past season, and he was the 2010 recipient of the MVC Elite 18 Award as the league's top scholar-athlete in cross country.
This award is the most recent academic recognition for the UNI track & field squads. Ryan Krogmann and Jarred Herring swept the 2012 MVC Elite 18 Awards for indoor and outdoor track, respectively, and UNI placed 15 student-athletes on the league's scholar-athlete teams.
