The University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer team dropped their first exhibition match of the season, 2-0, versus the University of South Dakota on Thursday afternoon.  The match was played in three 30-minute periods.

The Coyotes scored in the seventh minute when Teagan Eberle found Jenny Teslow up field for the score.  Eberle recorded her second assist of the match when she found Taylor Nivala in the 87th minute, beating the UNI goalkeeper for the second and final goal of the game.

The Panther offense had opportunities to score but just couldn’t find the back of the net in the match.  South Dakota outshot the Panthers 10 to eight but UNI held the advantage in shots-on-goal, seven to three.

Freshmen Annie Dale and Maddie Welch led the offensive attack with each firing two shots-on-goal in the game.  Sophomores Madisen Garman, Katherine Young, and Liz Frerichs each fired a shot on goal in the match and junior Elizabeth Rodriguez tallied a shot for the Panthers.

Junior goalkeeper Erin Zaideman recorded one save in the match.  South Dakota goalkeeper Mackenzie Viktor posted seven saves en-route to a shutout for the Coyotes.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tues., Aug. 14, when they play host to Ashford University at 7:00 P.M. at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex.  The match will be the final exhibition match for UNI.  The Panthers kick-off the regular season on Fri., Aug. 17, when they host the University of North Dakota.
