CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern cross country teams will travel to Carbondale, Ill., this Saturday to participate in the 2012 Saluki Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University.  The women will compete in a 5K race while the men will compete on an 8K course.  The women's race will start at 10:00 a.m. and the men's race will start shortly after at 10:45 a.m.

Senior Brett Egan will lead the way for the Panthers on the men's side with fellow senior Ryan Korggman, juniors Andrew Swanson and Calvin Kibby, sophomore Terry Nielsen and true freshmen Zach Buchheit, Alex Hershey and Ben Fick rounding out the men's team.

From the women's team, senior 2011 All-Conference runner Hayley Thomas will help lead the Panthers to another strong finish. Running alongside Thomas will be seniors April Davidshofer, Allison Fick and Lindsey Wilkins, junior Clancy Hosch, sophomores Brittany Bunger, Haley Stevens and Alex Wilson, and true freshmen Hanna Martin and Callie Matthews.

UNI will look to build off of their performances at the Oz Memorial in Minneapolis, Minn., where both the men's and women's teams competed on a 6K course.  The men placed three runners in the top 25 while the women placed three in the top 36.

The men's side saw Egan take home the top individual honors with a time of 18:53:50.  Egan cut over a minute off his time from his 2011 performance at the Oz Memorial.  Nielson followed Egan to take home a 16th place finish while cutting 38 seconds off of his time from the previous season.  Andrew Swanson and Zach Buchheit finished third and fourth for the Panthers, completing the course in times of 20:07.18 and 20:10.90 respectively, claiming 25th and 28th overall in the meet.

The women's side saw Hayley Thomas cross the finish line in a time of 23:19.95, good enough for 16th place.  Allison Fick (22nd) and Lindsey Wilkins (36th) rounded out the top three for UNI with respective times of 23:33.41 and 24:18.29. Fick finished 32nd in the 2011 Oz Memorial and cut over a minute off of her time while Wilkins improved her time by 16 seconds from last season.
