Heptathlon Results

DES MOINES, Iowa -- University of Northern Iowa junior Olimpia Nowak used a personal-best performance in the 200m dash to cap her day and stand in 12th place after the first four events of the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Nowak scored 3,242 points through the first day of competition at Drake Stadium.

The junior from Rawicz, Poland, is slightly ahead of the pace she set on her way to a career-high score at last year's NCAA Championships when she racked up 3,238 points on the first day. Nowak placed 11th last season after sitting in 13th place through the first four events.

Nowak opened the day with a time 13.82 seconds in the 100m hurdles -- the fourth-fastest time in the field -- to score 1,004 points. She cleared 5-03.00 (1.60m) in the high jump and posted a throw of 37-00.50 (11.29m) in the shot put. Nowak finished the day strong, clocking a personal-best time of 24.99 seconds in the 200m dash.

Ryann Krais of Kansas State currently leads the heptathlon with 3,585 points.

The heptathlon will resume Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. The long jump, javelin and 800m run are the final three events to be completed.
