UNI WBB Defeated by Bradley, 75-61

PEORIA, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team fell victim to Bradley's hot second-half shooting, falling 75-61 at Renaissance Coliseum on Friday evening. The Braves shot 60.6 percent over the final 20 minutes to pull away for the victory.

Playing in her 100th career game, senior guard Katelin Oney led the Panthers with 14 points. Brooke Brown scored 12 points to match her career-high, and Rachel Madrigal added 11. K.K. Armstrong paced UNI with six assists, while Oney chipped in a career-high five assists.

UNI (15-10, 8-6 MVC) shot 22-of-56 (39.3 percent) for the game. Bradley shot 20-for-33 in the second half to finish at 49.2 percent shooting on the night.

UNI struggled from long distance, hitting just 4-of-23 attempts (17.4 percent) from beyond the arc.

Kelsey Budd led the Braves with 22 points. Leah Kassing added 18 points and Shronda Butts had 16.

Bradley (14-12, 5-9 MVC) opened an early 15-9 lead in the first eight and a half minutes, but UNI got a jumper from Amber Kirschbaum, a three from Brown, a bucket by Brittni Donaldson and a layup by Oney for a 9-0 run to take an 18-15 lead. However, Bradley closed the half with a 13-6 run to hold a 28-24 halftime lead.

After falling behind 34-26 three minutes into the second half, UNI put together a 7-0 run featuring five straight points from Armstrong to close the gap to 34-33. Bradley answered with a 7-0 run of its own to push the Panthers' deficit back to eight, and UNI did not lead for the remainder of the game.

The Panthers cut the margin to four points at 43-39 and 45-41, but Bradley got a bucket on the following possession each time to thwart the UNI comeback.

UNI will host Creighton on Fri., Feb. 24, in the McLeod Center. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m.

NOTES: Jess McDowell played a career-high 24 minutes ... Brooke Brown matched her career-best with three three-pointers ... all five UNI starters drained four shots in the game ... Katelin Oney saw her 12-game streak with at least one three-pointer snapped ... Oney scored in double-digits for the 11th straight game ... the three-game MVC losing streak is UNI's first since Feb. 26-Mar. 4, 2010.
