The University of Northern Iowa women’s softball team headed south this afternoon to Wichita, Kan., for a pair of games with the Shockers of Wichita State. UNI took an eight-game win streak into Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference doubleheader.

In game one, UNI sent sophomore Jamie Fisher to the circle in hopes of picking up her 11th win on the season. Fisher got off to a bumpy start but eventually settled in. After tossing four innings Fisher allowed nine hits, six runs, and struck out eight in the process. Sophomore Jessica Severinsen came in at the beginning of the fifth inning relieving Fisher of her duties. Severinsen tossed three innings where she allowed no hits, no runs, and no walks as she kept the Shockers scoreless at the plate.

At the plate, the Panthers had no trouble getting the bats going. Junior catcher Sam Reimer led the Panthers at the plate going 3-for-5 with five RBI. Reimer shined in the top of the seventh inning when the Panthers trailed 6-5 before a three-run blast from the Dubuque, Iowa, native put the Panthers up 8-6 as they entered the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers put together an impressive twelve hits which helped collect eight runs and ultimately the lead as they finished off the Shockers in game one with an 8-6 comeback.

In game two, the Panthers showed no signs of slowing down carrying over their momentum from game one. The Panthers got off to a fast start in the first inning getting two runs across from seniors Hannah Borschel and Mackenzie Daigh as they took a 2-0 lead over the Shockers. Seniors Mackenzie Daigh and Allison Galvin led the Panthers with a pair of hits each which accounted for four of the teams seven hits.

Senior Jaye Hutcheson was in the circle for the Panthers to start the game. Despite a few early runs from the Shockers, Hutcheson remained calm and kept the Panthers defense together. Hutcheson tossed a complete game, allowing just 5 hits, five runs, and struck out eight in the process.

With a tied game entering the seventh inning a few costly errors managed to keep the game a bit closer than the Panthers had hoped. After allowing three errors which turned into three unearned runs, the Panthers were entering the top of the seventh in need of a run. Laura Turner sparked the rally by drawing a walk which was followed by a double from Gina Brown, and a sacrifice fly from Courtney Dunker which allowed Turner to cross the plate giving the Panthers a one run lead before innings end.

With a pair of strikeouts and an unassisted grounder to Gina Brown the Panthers wrapped up the game with a 6-5 win over the Shockers. With the win UNI improves to a 23-9 record on the season as well as a perfect 8-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference play. The pair of wins also adds onto the Panthers' 10-game win streak. UNI will take the diamond again tomorrow afternoon in game three of the series with the Shockers at Noon.
