CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - University of Northern Iowa head football coach Mark Farley announced the addition of assistant coach Travis Williams to his staff on Friday. Williams will work with the Panther linebackers.
Williams comes to UNI from Auburn University, where he served as a defensive graduate assistant for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. During Williams' time as a member of the coaching staff at Auburn, the Tigers won the 2010 Capital One Bowl and the 2011 BCS National Championship.
Williams was a member of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League from 2006-08, playing in six games as a linebacker in the 2007 season. Following his NFL career, he served as an assistant coach at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., in 2008.
Williams put together a decorated playing career as a student-athlete at Auburn from 2001-05. He was an All-SEC first-team selection and an honorable mention All-American at linebacker in 2004, and he followed up with second-team All-SEC honors in 2005. A three-year starter, Williams received Auburn's Pat Dye Leadership Award in 2004 and 2005 and the team's Defensive Player of the Year award in 2005.
A 2005 graduate of Auburn with a B.A. in criminology and criminal justice, Williams also earned a Master's degree from Auburn in 2011 in adult education.
