The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's track & field teams headed in a couple different directions on Saturday, and the Panthers ended up with excellent performances in both locations. A majority of the team competed at the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, and the Panther throwers took their talents to the Cornell Open in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

UNI's throwers recorded several breakout performances and multiple marks that rank among the best in school history.

Freshman Justin Baker surpassed his previous best in the shot put this season by five feet, taking the event title with a throw of 57-05.75 (17.52m). That performance leaves Baker just one-half inch out of No. 5 on the Panthers' all-time list, No. 26 in the NCAA West Region this year, and No. 3 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Junior Jordan Williams extended his lead over the rest of the MVC with a title and personal-best effort of 182-07 (55.65m) in the discus. Williams is No. 4 on the UNI all-time list in the event and No. 13 in the West Region this season.

Senior Tanner Hurt placed second in the discus and hammer throw, matching his season-best discus mark of 163-06.

Senior Traci Harms won the shot put with a toss of 48-06.00 (14.78m) - a personal-best mark and good enough for No. 4 all-time at UNI. Harms also won the hammer throw with a mark of 182-00 (55.48m) and posted a personal-best throw in the discus at 129-03 (39.40m) for third place.

Junior Kelsey Sukovaty placed second in the hammer throw and shot put, with a new lifetime-best throw of 171-08 (52.33m) in the hammer to become No. 5 on the UNI all-time performance list.

Freshman Sydney Rabon was third in the hammer throw, fourth in the shot put, and fourth in the discus.

Jim Duncan Invitational Women's Highlights

Jenna Wexter won the women's pole vault with a height of 12-05.50 (3.80m). Freshmen Libby Torresani and Jennifer Roche each cleared an outdoor-best 10-11.75 (3.35m) to place second and third, respectively.

Michaela Brungardt clocked the fastest 200m time by a Panther this season and a personal-best, placing third in 24.97 seconds. Sam Cameron was fourth with a season-best 24.99 seconds.

Claire Johannesen was third in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 57.47, and Emily Roberts took third in the 400m hurdles at 1:02.48.

Senior Johanna Smith matched her personal-best height in the high jump, clearing 5-05.00 (1.65m) for fourth place.

Jim Duncan Invitational Men's Highlights

Freshman Sebastian Barth won the 110m hurdles in 14.54 seconds.

Daniel Gooris cleared 16-06.75 (5.05m) to claim the men's pole vault title. Fellow senior Sam Kranz placed second at 16-00.75 (4.90m).

Sophomore Ryan Newtoff took third in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 53.35.
