Three University of Northern Iowa track & field student-athletes have been named second-team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Junior Daniel Gooris, senior Olimpia Nowak and junior Jordan Williams earned the honor for being among the top 16 finishers at the Outdoor Championships.
The top eight finishers are named first-team All-Americans, while the next eight finishers comprise the second team.
Gooris was UNI's top finisher at the national meet, placing 10th in the decathlon with a personal-best 7,629 points. This is the second time Gooris has been named a second-team All-American, as he also received the honor for placing ninth in the heptathlon at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Gooris' national meet performance marked the sixth time since 2006 that a Panther has finished in the nation's Top-10 in the decathlon.
Nowak put together the second-highest heptathlon score of her career, totaling 5,593 points for a 12th-place finish. She finished in the nation's Top-12 in the heptathlon for the third consecutive season, placing 11th in 2010 and 10th last season. Also a three-time NCAA Indoor Championships qualifier in the pentathlon, Nowak concluded her career with six Top-14 national finishes in the multi-events.
Williams became the first UNI men's thrower ever to earn an All-American designation at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, placing 14th in the discus.
In addition to the three second-team honorees, the Panthers had two performances earn honorable mention All-American status. Senior and all-time Missouri Valley Conference record-holder Justin Romero took 19th in the shot put, and Gooris claimed 22nd place in the pole vault to become honorable mention All-Americans.
