Mulder Locks Up Spot in 800m Final at U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - Former University of Northern Iowa NCAA champion Tyler Mulder once again won his 800m heat at the U.S. Olympic Trials, advancing to Monday night's final with a time of 1:46.14 at Hayward Field. Mulder recorded the third-fastest time among the 16 semifinalists on Saturday evening.

Mulder ran on the inside of Lane 1 for nearly the entire race, making his way to the front of the pack on the backstretch of the second lap and pulling away for an easy victory.

Mulder also won his opening round heat on Friday evening, running 1:46.81 in that round. He owns a personal-best performance of 1:44.83.

The eight-man final is scheduled for 9:47 p.m. (CT) on Mon., June 25. The top three finishers qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team.
