The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team saw its season get underway on Friday at the 2012 Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.

UNI picked up singles wins from senior Stefannia Russo and freshman Jessica King (Ames, Iowa). The Panthers also saw junior Krissy Lankelma team up with Iowa's Morven McCulloch to earn a victory in the doubles competition.

Saturday's play will feature quarterfinals/semifinals action in doubles and semifinals action in singles. The Panthers will be in action in consolation play throughout the day. The championship and consolation finals are set for Sunday.
