Fick Wins 5,000m, Larson & Leuer Share High Jump Title at Jim Duncan

DES MOINES - The University of Northern Iowa came away with two event titles on the opening night of the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake on Friday evening. Junior Allison Fick claimed the women's 5,000m championship, and Panther high jumpers Thomas Larson and Travis Leuer each cleared a season-best height to share the high jump crown.

Fick shattered her previous personal-best time with a clocking of 17:45.69 on Friday to beat the rest of the field by more than 15 seconds.

Larson and Leuer each cleared 6-08.75 (2.05m) on their first attempt at the height, and they matched on the previous numbers of makes and misses to share first place. Both also owned marks of 6-08.75 as their best jump in the 2011 outdoor season.

Sophomore Andrew Swanson placed third in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best performance of 9:43.33. Scotti Schon was second in the women's 3,000m steeplechase at 11:24.35.
