UNI Names Student-Athletes of the Month for September

The University of Northern Iowa athletic department has honored four Panthers as the Student-Athletes of the Month for September.

Candice Burke (Waterloo, Iowa/East HS), Allison Fick (Iowa City, Iowa/West HS), Brett Egan (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon HS) and David Johnson (Clinton, Iowa/Clinton HS) were selected as the student-athletes of the month by the UNI Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Candice Burke - Volleyball
Burke posted a team-best 247 digs in the month of September. Burke averaged 5.26 digs per set. Burke was named the Tournament MVP of the CEFCU Classic in Peoria, Ill. Burke tallied three service aces and 35 digs in a 3-1 win over Long Beach State on Sept. 15.

Allison Fick - Cross Country
Fick placed third overall in the Saluki Invitational on Sept. 22. Fick then posted a season-best time of 18:07 in the 5K at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago on Sept. 29. She placed 19th overall at the Lakefront Invite.

Brett Egan - Cross Country
Egan won two meets and finished second in three races in the month of September. Egan won the Oz Memorial in Minneapolis on Sept. 7. Egan then captured first place in the Saluki Invite. Egan placed second overall with a season-best time of 24:33 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Sept. 29.



David Johnson - Football
Johnson scored eight touchdowns and led the Panthers in rushing yards (269) and receiving yards (283) over five games. Johnson ranked second on the team in receptions with 20. Johnson tied a school record with a four-touchdown effort at Youngstown State on Sept. 22.
