Swimming and Diving to Hold Intra-squad Meet on Friday

The University of Northern Iowa swim and dive team will hold their preseason intra-squad swim meet Friday the 5th at 4:00 p.m. in the Glen F. Henry Swimming Pool in the Wellness and Recreation Center. The meet is free and open to the public.

The UNI swim and dive team welcomes eight freshmen and one transfer student to their roster this season:

Elizabeth Barske (Marshalltown, IA) - Breaststroke/IM

Barkse was a four-time letter winner in swimming at Marhsalltown High School. She was team captain in 2011. She was in the National Honor Society for three years in high school and maintained a 4.0 grade point average all four years. She is the daughter of Jeff and Jane Barske and is majoring in Finance at UNI.

Alexandria Bey (Forest Lake, MN) - Diving

Bey was a six-time letter winner in diving at Forest Lake High School. She earned all-conference in 2011, All-American in 2012. Bey was a state competitor in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and was named team captain in 2010. She was also four-time letter winner and state competitor in gymnastics. She is the daughter of Kent and Brenda Brey and is majoring in Elementary Education.

Miki Freese (Lincoln, NE) - Freestyle/Backstroke

Freese is sophomore transfer from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She went to high school at Lincoln Southeast High School where she was the 2008 state champion in the 100 backstroke. She is the daughter of Mark and Marlys Freese and is majoring in Biology/Biochemistry.

Sarah Kemp (Ames, IA) - Diving

Kemp was a four-time letter winner in diving at Ames High School. She finished second at state in 2011 and was named first team all-state. She holds the six-dive school record (291.6) at Ames High School, and she was team captain her senior year. She helped lead Ames High School to back to back state championships in 2010 and 2011. She is the daughter of Steve and Judy Kemp and is majoring in Exercise Science.

Kaitlyn Mason (Cedar Falls, IA) - Diving

Mason was a three-time letter winner in both diving and swimming at Cedar Falls High School. She is the daughter of David and Sindy Mason and is majoring in Biology.

Abigail MaMahon (Fairfield, IA) - Breaststroke/IM

MaMahon was a four-time letter winner in swimming at Fairfield High School. She also won two letters in softball, four letters in soccer and one letter in dance and drill. She is the daughter if Tim and Jane McMahon and is majoring in Business Marketing.

Taylor Ostrowski (Carol Stream, IL) - Butterly/IM

Ostrowski was homeschooled in high school and swam for the Wheaton Swim Club. She is the daughter of Richard and Patty Ostrowski and is majoring in Elementary Education.

Alesha Rettenmeier (Cedar Falls, IA) - Freestyle

Rettenmeier was a four-time letter winner in swimming at Cedar Falls High School. She competed at state all four years in high school and was team captain for two years. She helped lead Cedar Falls High School to a second place finish at state her freshman year, and a third place finish her senior year. She is the daughter of Rod and Julie Rettenmeier and is majoring in Elementary Education.

Sierra Sachtjen (Lodi, WI) - Freestyle/Backstroke

Sachtjen was a four-time letter winner in swimming at Lodi High School. She was all-conference in the 50 & 100 Free in 2012, all-state in the 100 Free and all-state honorable mention in the 100 Back, both in 2012. She currently holds all the swimming records at her high school. She was also a three-time letter winner in soccer. She was named all-conference first-team forward in 2012. She is the daughter of Tracy and Karl Sachtjen and is majoring in Biology.
