The University of Northern Iowa sent a trio of players to the Wildcat Invite in Evanston, Ill., to compete for the weekend and head coach Mariana Cobra saw three victories in Friday's action.
Junior Chelsea Moore played in the Orange bracket and faced off in round-robin play. Moore recorded a pair of wins over Minnesota's Pauline Gilbert (6-4, 6-2) and DePaul's Zhavia Gray (6-0, 6-4).
Senior Phoebe Walker took part in the Blue bracket and posted a 1-1 mark on the day. Walker dropped her opening round matchup with DePaul's Kelsey Lawson (2-6, 7-6, 6-1), but bounced back to knock off Minnesota's Aria Lambert in a three-setter (3-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Junior Krissy Lankelma came up short in a pair of matches in action in the Green bracket. Lankelma fell 6-2, 6-1 in an opening-round match to Minnesota's Jessika Mozia. Lankelma then lost a three-set decision to Illinois-Chicago's Keti Mebuke (6-2, 4-6, 7-6).
The doubles duo of Walker and Lankelma came up on the short end of an 8-4 decision to DePaul's doubles pair of Ana Vladutu and Zaina Sufi.
Action will continue tomorrow in Evanston, Ill.
