ST. LOUIS, Missouri -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced the 2012 women’s soccer all-conference teams on Thursday afternoon.  Five Panthers were tabbed to the 2012 squads with Senior Melissa Hagan and junior Allie Brees being named to the second team, freshman Sarah McHugh honored as a member of the all-freshman team, and senior Kiki McClellan and sophomore Caitlyn Fuller named as all-conference honorable mention selections.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized in our conference with so many great players,” said head coach James Price.  “These players have been rewarded for all of their hard work and commitment this season.”

Senior Melissa Hagan earned her second-consecutive MVC Second Team honors for her efforts this season.  Hagan played in 19 games for the Panthers, tallying 15 starts.  Hagan tallied two goals with two assists on the year, good for six points and ranking her third on the team.  Hagan fired 34 shots on the season with nine coming on goal.  The senior from Massillon, Ohio scored the first goal of the season for the Panthers in the 10th minute in a 5-0 UNI victory over North Dakota.  Hagan tallied her second goal of the year in a 2-1 victory over the defending MVC Champion Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, Illinois.  Hagan was a huge part of rebuilding the UNI program over the past four seasons.  The Massillon native tallied five career goals with seven assists.  The seven assists place her in a tie for first all-time in the UNI record books.

Junior Allie Brees was the anchor for the UNI defense, earning her first-ever MVC Second Team honors.  Brees saw action in 16 games for UNI, earning the starting nod in 15 of those contests.  Brees scored one goal against North Dakota in a 5-0 Panther victory.  The junior fired six shots on the season with one coming on goal.  The Urbandale native powered the UNI defense to six shutouts on the year including a shutout in the 110-minute, three-overtime season finale against Indiana State in the MVC tournament opener.

Sarah McHugh was named to the MVC All-Freshman team.  McHugh played in all 19 games for UNI, earning the starting spot in 18 matches.  McHugh tallied one goal and two assists on the year as a defender.  McHugh scored her first career goal and what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first overtime of a 1-0 Panther victory over St. Ambrose.  McHugh tallied assists in a 3-1 Panther loss vs. Missouri State and a 1-1 two-overtime draw against Drake.  The freshman tallied 24 shots with 13 coming on goal.  McHugh’s efforts helped UNI shutout their opponents six different times this season, including a 110 minute shutout in the season’s final game against Indiana State in the MVC tournament opener.

Kiki McClellan was honored as an Honorable Mention All-MVC selection as a senior.  McClellan tallied two goals on the year while firing 33 shots, eight of which game on goal.  The senior recorded a goal against in-state rival and MVC foe Drake in a 1-1 110-minute draw.  McClellan then tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 35th minute against the defending MVC champion Illinois State in Normal, Illinois, giving UNI the 2-1 victory.  The Aurora native was a key member of the defensive unit as well, helping UNI to six shutouts on the year.  McClellan finished her career with seven goals, good for seventh all-time in UNI history.

Caitlyn Fuller, coming off of her freshman season where she was tabbed as a member of the all-freshman team, was named to the Honorable Mention All-MVC team as a sophomore.  Fuller scored three goals on the season to go along with one assist.  Fuller saw action in 19 games for the Panthers this season, earning the starting nod 17 times.  The West Des Moines native tallied 20 shots on the year with nine coming on goal.  Her seven points were good for second on the team.  Fuller tallied her first career goal in the 16th minute of a 5-0 Panther victory over North Dakota.  The sophomore followed up that performance with a game-tying goal in the 88th minute against Eastern Illinois that forced overtime.  UNI was victorious in the first overtime period.  Fuller then scored her third goal of the season in a 3-1 loss against Missouri State.  Fuller tallied her lone assist in a 2-1 victory over defending MVC Champion Illinois State in Normal, Illinois.
