• The UNI Panthers men’s basketball team (2-0 overall) will take on the University of North Dakota (1-1 overall) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
• UND holds a 50-31 lead in the all-time series. However, UNI has won the last three meetings between the schools.
• North Dakota enters Saturday’s matchup with a mark of 1-1. UND dropped its opener at Kansas State, 85-52, but bounced back with an 87-51 win over Crown College on Wednesday night in Grand Forks, N.D.
• UNI tallied an 84-81 overtime win over Toledo on Wednesday in the McLeod Center. Sophomore point guard Deon Mitchell scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Panthers to the win.
• The Panthers set a McLeod Center record with 32 made free throws vs. the Rockets on Wednesday. The previous mark of 31 was set vs. Indiana State on Feb. 27, 2008.
• UNI is now 2-2 all-time in overtime games in the McLeod Center. UNI’s previous overtime win in the McLeod Center came Feb. 13, 2008, in a 77-75 victory over Wichita State.
• UNI is a perfect 15-0 in games played in the McLeod Center in the month of November.
• UNI has posted a mark of 34-7 vs. non-conference competition since the McLeod Center opened in November 2006.
• The UNI men’s basketball team received  four votes in this week’s Associated Press top 25 poll.

TELEVISION INFORMATION
Saturday’s UNI-North Dakota game will be broadcast on the Panther Sports Television Network (PSN).
    The PSN game will be cleared on KWWL Ch. 7.3, Cedar Falls Utilities Ch. 15, WOI Ch. 5.2, ESPN3 and ESPN FullCourt.
    Brad Wells (play-by-play) and Kevin Lehman (analyst) will call the action.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NORTH DAKOTA
North Dakota leads the all-time series, 50-31. However, UNI has won the last three meetings between the schools.

SCOUTING NORTH DAKOTA
UND will enter Saturday’s contest vs. UNI with a mark of 1-1 overall. UND opened the season with an 85-52 loss at Kansas State (Nov. 9).
    UND scored its first win of the season on Wednesday with an 87-51 triumph over Crown College in Grand Forks, N.D.
    UND is a first-year member of the Big Sky Conference after winning back-to-back Great West Tournament titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

UND FEATURES TRIO OF TIES TO UNI
    Head coach Brian Jones was a four-year letterman as a guard/forward at UNI and went on to play professional basketball in Australia and Portugal. He was a two-time all-state selection as a prep at Rock Island High School in Illinois. Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in communications and broadcasting from Northern Iowa in 1994 and his master’s degree in athletic administration from Nebraska-Omaha in 2003.
    Dean Oliver is serving in his first season as an assistant coach for UND. After a productive four-year career at Iowa, Oliver spent his first two professional seasons (2001-03) with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA. Oliver started all but two games for the Hawkeyes in his four seasons in Iowa City. He earned All-Big Ten Conference Third Team honors after his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Only two other Big Ten players besides Oliver have collected over 1,500 points, 500 assists and 200 steals in their careers.
    Junior forward Jaron Nash is originally from Waterloo, Iowa, and went to Waterloo East High School. Nash transferred to UND from Texas Tech. Nash spent the 2011-12 season at Texas Tech where he played in 27 games off the bench and averaged just over eight minutes per game for then head coach Billy Gillespie.
    Head coach Brian Jones is embarking on his seventh season as the head coach at North Dakota. He has led UND to two straight berths in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. UND won 17 games last season before falling at Drake in the first round of the CIT in Des Moines.

NOVEMBER PERFECTION
UNI is a perfect 15-0 in games played in the McLeod Center in the month of November.

NON-CONF HOME-COURT SUCCESS
UNI has posted a mark of 34-7 vs. non-conference competition since the McLeod Center opened in November 2006.
    UNI posted a 6-1 mark last season in the McLeod Center during its non-conference home schedule.

DEON’S GREAT START
Sophomore guard Deon Mitchell is off to a tremendous start to the 2012-13 season. Mitchell is averaging 22.5 ppg and is shooting 78.9 percent from the floor (including 80 percent from 3-point land).
    Mitchell has dished out 11 assists in the two Panther victories to go against only four turnovers.

TUTTLE IS OH SO ACCURATE
Sophomore Seth Tuttle is UNI’s career leader in field goal percentage at 68.3 percent through 36 career games.
    Tuttle is shooting 75.0 percent (9-fo-12) this season, after blistering the nets last season at 65.2 percent (118-of-181).

KOCH DRAINS ‘EM FROM THE LINE
Junior Jake Koch currently ranks No. 7 on the Panthers’ all-time free throw percentage list. Koch has made 224-of-280 career free throws for a mark of 80.0 percent.
    Maurice Newby (1987-91) holds the UNI free throw percentage record at 85.6 percent (149-of-174).

UNI RECEIVES VOTES IN LATEST
ASSOCIATED PRESS POLL
The UNI men’s basketball team received  four votes in this week’s AP top 25 poll.
    UNI has been ranked in the national polls on 12 occasions with nine of those coming in the 2009-10 season.
    The UNI Panthers finished the 2009-10 season ranked No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. It marked the highest ranking ever in school history for the Panthers in the Coaches Poll.
    The Feb. 8, 2010, Associated Press poll saw UNI ranked No. 19 – the highest ranking for the Panthers ever in the AP poll.

    UNI is 20-1 all-time when scoring 80 or more points under coach Jacobson. The Panthers have won 15 straight games when scoring 80 or more points.

UNI’S 3-POINT STREAK
UNI has made at least one 3-pointer in 396 straight games.
    The last time UNI failed to make a 3-point basketball came Feb. 3, 2000, vs. Southern Illinois in a 72-58 Panther victory in the UNI-Dome. UNI went 0-for-4 from 3-point land vs. the Salukis back in 2000.

BATTLE 4 ATLANTIS - IT’S KIND OF A LOADED TOURNAMENT
All eight teams that will take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas on Nov. 22-24 are either ranked or receiving votes in the preseason Associated Press top 25 poll.
    Louisville, UNI’s opening round opponent, is ranked No. 2 in the country and received 20 first-place votes.
    Duke is ranked No. 8, followed by Missouri at No. 15 and Memphis at No. 17.
    VCU, Minnesota, UNI and Stanford are all receiving votes in the preseason poll.

UNI SETS MCLEOD RECORD FOR FREE THROWS MADE
UNI drained 32 free throws in its 84-81 overtime win over Toledo to set the McLeod Center record for free throws made in a game.
    The previous mark of 31 was set Feb. 27, 2008, vs. Indiana State.
