Kollmorgen Named Freshman and Newcomer of the Year

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Redshirt freshman quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen has been named the MVFC Newcomer and Freshman of the Year for his performance during the 2012 season, it was announced today by the conference.

Kollmorgen became the fifth freshman to start at quarterback in UNI history. He finished the season 185 for 313 passing with 21 touchdowns and 2,460 yards.

The Jenks, Okla. Native finished second in the conference in total offense averaging 228.4 yards per game and in passing average per game with 222.7. He also finished first in pass efficiency at 141.9.  Kollmorgen passed for over 200 yards in nine games this season including a season high 333 yards against Youngstown State.

Kollmorgen joins the ranks of Tirrell Rennie, who was Newcomer of the Year in 2010, along with Darian Williams and Terrance Freeney on the list of UNI athletes that were named MVFC Newcomer of the Year. He is the first Panther to be named MVFC Freshman of the year since 2004 when Eric Sanders was honored with the award.
