• The UNI Panthers men’s basketball team (7-5 overall) will open up Missouri Valley Conference play by visiting Koch Arena and taking on the Wichita State Shockers (11-1 overall) on Sunday at 5 p.m.

• Senior guard Anthony James is closing in on becoming the Panthers’ next 1,000-point career scorer. James has tallied 980 points heading into Sunday’s game at Wichita State.
• Senior forward Jake Koch has tallied 861 points and 524 rebounds in his Panther career. Koch is one of 23 players all-time at UNI to reach both the 500-point and 500-rebound marks.
• Senior guard Marc Sonnen is the team’s leader in made three-point field goals with 31 through the Panthers’ first 12 games. Sonnen is tied for 9th all-time at UNI with 136 made 3-pointers. Sonnen ranks No. 29 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage (43.7 percent).
• UNI has matched up against a trio of top-25 opponents this season in No. 2 Louisville, No. 19 Memphis and No. 21 UNLV.
• UNI’s 11-game home-court winning streak ranks as the 17th-best mark in the nation. It’s the second-longest streak (21 from 2009-2010) in the McLeod Center since the arena opened in 2006.
This year’s UNI men’s basketball games can be heard on the UNI Sports Radio Network, with KXEL (1540 AM, Waterloo, Iowa) serving as flagship station. Affiliates include KGYM (1600 AM, Cedar Rapids), KCHA (95.9 FM and 1580 AM, Charles City), KXNO (1460 AM, Des Moines), KQCR (98.9 FM, Hampton), KQMG (95.3 FM, Independence), KRIB (1490 AM, Mason City), KILJ (105.5 FM, Mount Pleasant), KWQC (1570 AM, Webster City).
Long-time Panthers announcer Gary Rima handles play-by-play duties, while Kevin Boyle serves as analyst. Head coach Ben Jacobson’s weekly radio call-in show will air on Thursdays, starting Dec. 6 at 6 p.m., live from The Other Place in Cedar Falls.
Sunday’s game between UNI and Wichita State will be shown live on the Missouri Valley Conference Television Network (MVC TV).
The telecast will be cleared live on FOX Sports Midwest, FOX Sports Indiana and FOX Sports Kansas City (combined 5.9 million homes), FOX College Sports Central (56 million digital homes), Comcast SportsNet Chicago (4.9 million homes), ESPN3 (outside the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska), DirecTV (Channel 671), Dish Network (Channel 418) and AT&T U-Verse (Channel 748).
John Rooney (play-by-play) and Mark Adams (analyst) will call the action courtside at Koch Arena.
WICHITA STATE SHOCKERS
Wichita State posted an 11-1 mark in non-conference play. The Shockers’ only loss came at Tennessee on Dec. 13, 69-60.
The Shockers were ranked as high as No. 23 in the Associated Press poll earlier this season.
14 IN A ROW AT HOME FOR WSU
Wichita State has won 14 straight home games heading into Sunday’s game vs. UNI. The Shockers’ win streak ranks as the 11th-best active home-court win streak in the nation.
Earlier this season, UNI snapped George Mason’s 14-game home-court win streak with an 82-77 overtime victory over the Patriots (12/8) in Fairfax, Va.
UNI owns a 25-20 lead in the all-time series vs. Wichita State. Head coach Ben Jacobson is 3-3 in the six games he has coached at Koch Arena.
Both Wichita State and UNI played Northern Colorado and Iowa this season.
Wichita State defeated both Northern Colorado (80-54) and Iowa (75-63), while UNI downed Northern Colorado (76-59) but fell to Iowa (80-73).

The Panthers are 3-3 in MVC openers under head coach Ben Jacobson.
UNI is 2-1 on the road in league openers under Coach Jake with wins at Bradley (2007-08) and at Creighton (2009-10).

UNI reached the 80-point mark for the fourth time this season its 82-75 win over Saint Mary’s (12/23).
UNI is 22-1 all-time when scoring 80 or more points under coach Jacobson. The Panthers have won 17 straight games when scoring 80 or more points.

UNI is averaging 81.6 points per game in each of its seven wins. However, the Panthers are scoring 55.0 points per game in each of its five losses.
MITCHELL IS ON POINT
Sophomore point guard Deon Mitchell leads the Panthers in scoring at 12.4 points per game.
He has scored 18 or more points on four occasions this season, including a career-high 27 points in an overtime win over Toledo (11/14).
Mitchell led the Panthers with 23 points against Iowa (12/15) in the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic in Des Moines. It marked the second 20-point game of Mitchell’s UNI career.
Mitchell also leads the Panthers in assists (3.4 apg).

Senior guard Anthony James is closing in on becoming the Panthers’ next 1,000-point career scorer.

Senior guard Marc Sonnen is the team’s leader in made three-point field goals with 31 through the Panthers’ first 12 games.
Sonnen has drained 136 3-pointers in his Panther career, which ranks tied for ninth on the Panthers’ all-time list. Sonnen is currently tied with Jason Daisy (1993-97).
Sonnen surpassed Dale Turner (1989-92), who had made 134 career three-pointers.

Senior guard Marc Sonnen ranks No. 29 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage shooting at 43.7 percent.
Over Sonnen’s last five games, he is shooting 56.7 percent from 3-point range (17-of-30).

Senior forward Jake Koch is a stat-sheet stuffer supreme - to steal a line from Clark Kellogg.
Koch leads the Panthers in rebounds (81), blocks (19) and free throws made (52). He ranks fourth on the squad in scoring (10.3 ppg).
KOCH DRAINS ‘EM FROM THE LINE
Senior Jake Koch currently ranks No. 6 on the Panthers’ all-time free throw percentage list. Koch has made 271-of-334 career free throws for a mark of 81.1 percent.

Maurice Newby (1987-91) holds the UNI free throw percentage record at 85.6 percent (149-of-174).
TUTTLE IS OH SO ACCURATE
Sophomore forward Seth Tuttle is UNI’s career leader in field goal percentage at 61.9 percent through 46 career games.
Tuttle is shooting 53.9 percent (41-of-76) this season, after blistering the nets last season at 65.2 percent (118-of-181).
