CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2013 Jack Jennett Invitational with freshman Brandon Mortensen finishing the day leading the team in points in the heptathlon.
Brandon Mortensen won the 60 meter dash and scored 840 points with his time of 7.12. His time of 7.12 gives the freshman the fourth fastest time on the team this season.
Mortensen also finished third in the high jump competition with a new personal-best height of 6-06.25. With his high jump performance, he added another 794 points to his total for the evening.
Angus Stoudt finished fifth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.34, notching 765 points. Stoudt also picked up third place in the long jump with a distance of 21-10.25. Tyler Clark placed second in the shot put portion of the competition, throwing for a distance of 38-05.00.
Mortensen finished the day leading the team and in second overall with 2,939 points through the first four events of the heptathlon, with Stoudt in third place. Robert Webb of Indiana State finished the day's competition with the overall lead of 2,953 points.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow to complete the 2013 Jack Jennett Invitational. The first event is set to start at 10:00 a.m.
