CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Ryan Loder is the first Panther to be named Wrestler of the Week by the Mid-American Conference.
The University of Northern Iowa joined the MAC this year for the conference tournament only. The Panthers will include MAC duals in their regular season starting next year.
Loder, a junior, is undefeated in dual competition this year. His most recent win came against No. 11 Boaz Beard of Iowa State.
It was a scoreless first period, but Loder's escape and takedown had him leading going into the third. A final takedown and 1:04 riding time secured his 6-1 win. Earlier in the year, he upset Missouri's No. 8 Mike Larson at the Panthers' first MAC dual of the year. He was ranked ninth at the time.
An injury slowed Loder's start to the season, but he has been nationally ranked for the majority of it. He is ranked sixth in the nation by Intermat and in the NCAA Coaches Poll. Amateur Wrestling News ranks him eighth. He is ranked second in the conference.
He is a two-time NCAA national qualifier and was fourth at Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30.
Loder's career record is the fifth-highest winning percentage among all UNI Panthers who have had at least 50 wins and competed at least two seasons in Division I. His career record is 91-20.
His overall record for the season is 26-3. He is 1-0 in the MAC. So far this year, he has recorded six pins, three technical falls and six major decision wins. He is from Granite Bay, Calif.
