The University of Northern Iowa will hit the road for their final road weekend during the regular conference season to take on the Evansville Purple Aces on Friday March 1 and the Southern Illinois Salukis on Sunday March 3.
Tanya Warren enters her sixth season as the head coach of the Panthers after taking the team to new heights. During the 2011-2012 season, Warren led the Panthers to a successful season with 19 wins, marking its third straight season with 17 or more wins for only the second time in program history. The Panthers' 63 wins since the start of the 2009-10 season are the school's most over a span of three seasons. The team also racked up the first post-season victories in UNI history, winning three games to advance to the finals of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). Oties Epps was introduced May 18, 2011 as the 10th head coach in the 43-year history of women's basketball at the University of Evansville. The Aces finished with a 5-25 record and 2-16 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference, including a victory over 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Creighton University. Adrianne Harlow is in her fourth season at Southern Illinois and her first as the team's interim coach. Harlow coached with former SIU head coach Missy Tiber for the last 11 years at SIU, Tusculum College and Belmont Abbey College. Her primary duties at SIU include recruiting and player development of the Saluki guards, as well as being the team's business manager.
Evansville enters this week with an overall record of 8-17 and currently sits in sixth place in the MVC with a 6-8 conference record. The Purple Aces are on a four-game losing streak with their last win coming against Southern Illinois on Feb. 9. Evansville is being led by Sophomore Khristian Hart who is currently seventh in the MVC in scoring with 13.6 points per game.
Last Time Against the Purple Aces
UNI defeated Evansville on Feb. 2 inside the McLeod Center 75-64. The Panthers were led by Jacqui Kalin, who finished with 28 points and 10 assists. Evansville's Samantha Heck led the Purple Aces with 23 points. UNI is on a nine game winning streak against Evansville dating back to Jan. 9, 2009.
Scouting Southern Illinois
Southern Illinois enters the week with an overall record of 4-21 and are in last place in the MVC with a 1-13 conference record. Their lone conference win came against Drake on Jan. 5. Sophomore Cartaesha Macklin is fifth in the MVC in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game.
Last Time Against the Salukis
The Panthers came away with a win against Southern Illinois on Jan. 31, defeating the Salukis 76-59. Jacqui Kalin scored 20 points, with Hannah Schonhardt chipping in another 15. For SIU Cartaesha Macklin notched a team high 17 points and added five assists. The last time the Panthers lost to SIU was on Feb. 7, 2009 when SIU defeated UNI 58-40.
Brittni Donaldson went perfect from the field and the arc during the first half against Creighton (2/21). She finished with three three-pointers and 11 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. She finished with 14 points to make it the sixth time this season that she has reached double figures and tied her career high.
Jacqui Kalin has scored in double figures 24 times this season. She has scored 20-plus points in 14 games this season, including her 25 point performance against Drake (2/23).
Late Season Surge
Hannah Schonhardt has scored in double figures seven times this season and three times in the last four games. She finished with 14 points against Drake (2/23). In the month of February, Schonhardt is averaging 13 points per game and is shooting 55 percent from the field.
Entering this week, head coach Tanya Warren is currently sitting at 99 total career wins as a head coach. She is just one shy of hitting the 100 career wins mark.
The Panthers currently have seven players on the roster with 100 or more points this season. Jacqui Kalin leads the team with 505 with Jen Keitel coming in second with 196 points. Brittni Donaldson (186), Hannah Schonhardt (194), Amber Kirschbaum (146), Brooke Brown (128) and Jess McDowell (103) also all have 100-plus points.
Threes For Days
Jacqui Kalin has scored three or more three-pointers in 13 games this season. She finished with four against Bradley (2/16) and scored a career high six three-pointers against Missouri State (1/10).
UNI has had 19 games this season where two or more players have scored in double figures. Jacqui Kalin and Brittni Donaldson finished in double figures against Creighton (2/21) and Kalin and Schonhardt finished in double figures against Drake (2/23).

Jacqui Kalin is now the all-time leading scorer at UNI with 1,924 career points after her career-high 37-point performance against Missouri State (2/10).
After her six assists against Missouri State (2/10), Jacqui Kalin is now second all-time at UNI in career assists. She currently has 443. Kelley Westhoff is in the lead with 475 when she played from 1993-97.
From the Line
Jacqui Kalin is now the all-time UNI career leader in free throws made with 437. She finished 4-4 against Drake (2/23).
Jacqui Kalin is the all-time UNI career leader in three-pointers attempted with 723. She is also the all-time leader in career three-pointers made with 243.
Attempts for Greatness
Jacqui Kalin has moved up to third all-time at UNI in career field goals attempted with 1,551 and field goals made with 622. Amy Swisher is in the lead with 1,724 and 726 (2000-04) and Diane Roberts is in second with 1,552 and 664 (1984-88). Kalin finished the game against Drake (2/23) 9-19 from the field.
Streak to the Line
Jacqui Kalin is currently ranked first in the NCAA in free throw percentage, shooting 93.8 percent from the free throw line. She finished with 17 combined made free throws against Wichita State and Missouri State.
Jacqui Kalin reached 17 points in just the first half against Missouri State (2/10), giving her the highest point total she had reached in a first half this season. She has now scored in double figures in the first half 11 times this season.

MVC Player of the Week: 2/11/13
Jacqui Kalin has been named the MVC Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and for the second consecutive week. Kalin finished the weekend against Wichita State (2/8) and Missouri State (2/10) with 57 total points, becoming UNI's all-time leading scorer with her career high 37 points came in the Panthers' 82-78 win over the Bears. Kalin is two MVC Player of the Week wins away from tying Jackie Stiles for the most in a season. Stiles won seven times during the 2000-01 season. Rachael Hackbarth won six times in 2011-12 and Kristi Cirone (2008-09), Wanda Ford (1985-86) and Melanie Boeglin (2005-06) all won it five times during their respective seasons.
Amber Kirschbaum scored a season-high 14 points and finished with her second double-double of the season against Missouri State (2/10) with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She has finished with five or more rebounds in 15 games this season. She is currently 11th all-time at UNI in career rebounds with 608 and sixth in defensive rebounds with 424.
Treys For The Win
The Panthers are currently 9-4 this season when they hit eight or more three-pointers in a game. UNI has scored 10 or more three-pointers in eight games this season. UNI knocked down 13 against Bradley (2/16).
Jacqui Kalin broke the top-25 in the NCAA points per game category after her performances against Wichita State (2/8) and Missouri State (2/10). Kalin picked up 18 points against Bradley (2/16), propelling her to 23st in the country in scoring with 19.4 points per game.

Sixth Year Is The Charm
Jacqui Kalin notched her first career double-double against Drake (1/27). She finished with 22 points and a career high 11 rebounds. Kalin came close to her first triple-double against Saint Louis (12/29) when she finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. She also grabbed her second double-double of the season against Evansville (2/2) when she finished with 28 points and 10 assists.
Amber Kirschbaum entered the season with 62 career blocks and has recorded 12 so far this season. She is currently 10th all-time at UNI in career blocks with 74 and only needs five more to tie for ninth.
The Panthers are 7-1 this season when they outrebound their opponent. UNI out-rebounded the Bradley Braves (2/16) 42-38.
Jacqui Kalin has gone perfect from the free throw line in 17 out of the 26 games the Panthers have played this season. The 93.8 percent free throw shooter shot a season high 14 free throws against Missouri State (2/10).

MVC Player of the Week: 2/4/13
Jacqui Kalin has been named the MVC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Kalin helped lead the Panthers to a two-game sweep against the Salukis (1/31) and the Purple Aces (2/2) by scoring 20-plus points in both games. Kalin notched 20 points against Southern Illinois while going perfect from the free throw line. Against Evansville, Kalin put up 28 points, matching her season high that she set against North Carolina State. She finished the game with her second career double-double, adding a career high 10 assists to her stat sheet.
College Sports Madness MVC POW: 2/4/13
Jacqui Kalin has been named the College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season afer her two 20-plus point performances against Southern Illinois and Evansville.
MVC Newcomer of the Week: 2/4/13
Hannah Schonhardt was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week. Schonhardt set two career highs during the week, scoring a career high 15 points against Southern Illinois (1/31) and beating that mark against Evansville (2/2) with 23 points. She finished with nine rebounds against the Salukis and added eight against the Purple Aces. This is Schonhardt's first career MVC honor.
Two In One Week
Hannah Schonhardt scored a career high 23 points against the Evansville (2/2). Her previous career high was set just a few days earlier against Southern Illinois (1/31) when she finished with 15 points. Schonhardt notched her first career 20-plus point performance against Evansville, finishing the first half shooting 100 percent from the three-point line.
Sharnae Lamar started the second game of her career/season against Drake (1/27) after her strong seven-point performance against Creighton (1/25).
Brooke Brown is becoming known around UNI as a defensive presence on the court because of her quickness and non-stop pressure on the ball. Brown is often used against the opposing team's better shooters to keep them under pressure. Brown helped the Panthers keep Creighton (1/25) to one of their lowest scoring games this season (54 points).
The Panthers shot 56.3 percent from the field in the first half against Bradley (1/18), recording the highest first half percentage this season. It was the seventh game this season that the Panthers have shot 50 percent or higher during the first half. UNI ended the game shooting 53.6 percent from the field, which also marked the highest percentage for a whole game this season.
College Sports Madness MVC POW: 1/21/13
Jacqui Kalin was named the College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for her performance against Bradley. Kalin finished 8-13 shooting and was perfect from the line with 6-6 free throws. She recorded 23 points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Panthers set a new season high record in three-pointers made in a game with 15 against Missouri State (1/10). Their previous season high was set against North Carolina State (11/25) with 14. The school record for three-pointers made in a game was set in 2007 when UNI hit 17 against UMBC.
MVC Player of the Week: 1/14/2013
Jacqui Kalin was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season for her performances against Missouri State and Wichita State. She notched 25 points against Missouri State (1/10) and 22 points against Wichita State (1/12). She also finished with a career high six three-pointers made against the Bears.
The women's basketball program produced a 3.59 team GPA during the fall semester, which ranked as the highest team GPA at UNI this year.
Amber Kirschbaum and Sharnae Lamar both made their first appearances since the game against South Dakota State (12/8) against Illinois State (1/4).
Power from the Point
Jacqui Kalin has either led or tied for the lead on the team in scoring in 25 of the 26 games this season. The only game she didn't lead the team in scoring was against South Dakota (11/15) when Jen Keitel scored 18 points.
UNI broke Indiana State's eight-game winning streak inside the Hulman Center that dated back to last season's win over Wichita State.
The Panthers are 3-3 in MVC Conference openers under the direction of Tanya Warren. UNI is 7-14 in conference openers since joining the Missouri Valley Conference for the 1992-1993 season.
Hannah Schonhardt notched her first career start against the Billikens of Saint Louis (12/29), finshing with a career high 10 rebounds. She is the only true freshman on the team that has played this season.
MVC Player of the Week: 12/31/12
Jacqui Kalin was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season for her performance against Saint Louis (12/29). She led the team in scoring with 25 points and finished with nine rebounds and nine assists.
College Sports Madness MVC POW: 12/31/12
Jacqui Kalin was named the College Sports Madness MVC Player of the Week for her performance against Saint Louis. She was close to notching a triple double with her 25 points, nine rebounds and nine assists on the way to leading UNI to victory.
UNI's roster members from the state of Minnesota scored seven of the Panthers first 10 points when UNI played the Gophers on Dec. 21. Hannah Schonhardt, who is from Waconia, hit a three-pointer while Stephanie Davison, who is from Maple Grove, hit two jumpers.
Big Schools, Great Experience
The Minnesota Gophers were the sixth BCS team that the Panthers have met this season. UNI also faced-off against Arizona State, Florida, North Carolina State, Iowa and Iowa State.
Double Digit Deficit
The 40 point difference (81-41) between UNI and Chicago State (12/14) was the second largest deficit in McLeod Center history. The UNI women's basketball team defeated Evansville by 42 points in 2010.
Big Win, Big Points
The Panthers scored a season high 81 points against the Cougars of Chicago State (12/4). UNI scored 80 or more points in four games last season, including an 88 point game against Chicago State.
Amber Kirschbaum notched her first double-double of the season against Chicago State (12/4). She finished the game with 11 rebounds and 12 points. She had a staggering 10 rebounds in just the first half against the Cougars.
Jacqui Kalin was chosen as one of 12 athletes to represent the United States in the 19th World Maccabiah Games this summer. The games will take place in Israel as Kalin will try to help lead the USA Open Women's Basketball team to the gold medal.
Jacqui Kalin broke the 1,500 career points mark with her 14 points against Florida. She currently has 1,924 career points and is only the third Panther in UNI history to score more than 1,500 career points.
From the Arc
Jen Keitel made her first collegiate three-pointer against N.C. State (11/25). Sharnae Lamar went perfect from the three-point-line against North Carolina State hitting two.
The UNI bench shined during the SouthPoint Thanksgiving Shootout scoring 78 points in the three games. The Panther bench outscored North Carolina State's bench 29-8 in the UNI victory.
Jacqui Kalin was named the MVP of the SouthPoint Thanksgiving Tournament for her three double figure performances. She scored 14 points against Arizona State and Florida and added 28 points in UNI's win against North Carolina State.
UNI against the Pac-12
UNI is 1-4 all-time against teams from the Pac-12 conference. The Panthers faced Arizona State this season, and also competed against Colorado in 2005, Washington in 2006 and Washington State in 1994.
UNI against the SEC
The Panthers have faced three teams from the SEC in program history. UNI is currently 1-2 all-time against the SEC with a win over Arkansas in 2001 and losses to Alabama and Florida.
UNI against the ACC
UNI has only met two teams from the ACC in program history. The Panthers have played against Maryland twice, unfortunately losing both contests in 2006 and 2007. UNI is currently 1-2 all-time against the ACC after a big win against North Carolina State this season, 76-72.
MVC Player of the Week : 11/19/12
Jacqui Kalin was named the MVC Player of the Week for her performance against South Dakota and North Dakota State. Kalin led the Panthers in scoring notching 15 points in their win over USD and adding 26 points in their win over NDSU. She also notched a career high nine rebounds against the Bison.
First Time for Everything
Several Panthers played in their first collegiate basketball game against Wisconsin-Green Bay. Jen Keitel, Stephanie Davison and Hannah Schonhardt all contributed as freshmen on the court against the Phoenix.
The Panthers are 23-22 all-time in season openers since the program started in 1968. UNI is 4-2 all-time in season openers under the direction of head coach Tanya Warren.
The Panthers will face one of their toughest non-conference schedules this season. Nine of the opponents qualified for post-season play a year ago and five of those teams made it to the NCAA tournament.
Sixth Year Coincidence?
Jacqui Kalin is in her sixth year at UNI and so is head Coach Tanya Warren. Together they have been able to win two MVC titles, advance to the post-season three years in a row and put together the most wins in school history over the span of three years.
Knocking off the Rust
Jacqui Kalin had not played in a collegiate basketball game before this season since March 20, 2011 when the Panthers played in the NCAA tournament against Michigan State. In the exhibition match against Upper Iowa, it was as if Kalin hadn't missed a beat when she notched a double-double in her first game back with 10 points and 10 assists.
UNI was picked to finish fourth in the MVC this season. Creighton took the top spot with Wichita State taking the second spot. Illinois State finished in the third place spot with Missouri State rounding out the top-five behind the Panthers.
Jacqui Kalin was picked by the conference as part of the preseason All-MVC team. She was joined by Wichita State, Illinois State, Creighton and Missouri State.
Senior CLASS Award
Kalin has been named a candidate for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in community, classroom, character and competition.
The UNI women's basketball team made history last season by notching the program's first post-season wins during their run in the Women's Basketball Invitational. UNI won three games to advance to the finals of the WBI.
Winning in McLeod
The women's basketball program currently has a winning record inside the McLeod Center. The overall record of 61-32 includes nine wins at home last season and five home wins this season.
UNI had won 63 games since the start of the 2009-10 season, marking the most wins in school history over a span of three seasons.
