OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior Jacqui Kalin has been named to the 2013 Senior CLASS All-American second team it was announced today. Kalin was one of ten finalists for the Senior CLASS Award that was awarded to Elena Delle Donne of Delaware.
Kalin became the first player in UNI women’s basketball history to be named a finalist for the award. The senior also became the first women's basketball player in UNI history to be named to the CoSIDA All-American first team.
Kalin, a two-time Jackie Stiles Player of the Year and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the year winner, led UNI and the MVC in scoring with 662 points, averaging 19.5 per game. During the season, Kalin was named the MVC Player of the Week five times, including after her career high 37-points against Missouri State on Feb. 10.
Kalin was also named to the MVC All-Conference first team for the third time in her career, marking the 13th year that the Panthers have had at least one player earning first team recognition. Kalin joins former Panthers Allison Starr, Amy Swisher and Alex Cook who all were selected three times in their career.
The Sioux City, Iowa, native is now the all-time leader at UNI in scoring (2,081), three-point field goals made (265), free throws made (484), free throw percentage (.920), assists (491), games started (136), games played (136) and minutes (4,352). Kalin is now sixth all-time in the MVC in scoring and first in the MVC in free throw percentage.
She graduated with her undergraduate degree “Summa Cum Laude” in Sport Psychology in 2010 and is currently defending her thesis for her masters in Kinesiology and Sport Psychology.
She is an active member and the MVC representative for the NCAA Division I National Student Athlete Advisory Committee and is an active member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee. Kalin was the UNI Co-President of the SAAC from the spring of 2010 to the spring of 2012 and is a member of the UNI Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council.
Kalin has volunteered as a Big Sister for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa program along with the Global Forum for Physical Education. She has also been a part of Relay for Like, Habitat for Humanity, House of Hope, CharacterCounts, the Special Olympics and Just Read.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
