Walker Named MVC Women's Tennis Player of the Year

University of Northern Iowa senior Phoebe Walker was selected as the women’s tennis Missouri Valley Valley Player of the Year for the first time, after registering a 15-3 overall, 6-1 conference record at No. 1 singles.

In addition to being named the MVC Player of the Year, Walker also earned first-team all-MVC status for the third time in her career. She is the first UNI women's tennis player to earned all-league honors three times.

Walker has posted an overall mark of 21-5 in singles action. She has won 20 or more singles matches in three of her four seasons at UNI. Walker has tallied 75 career singles wins to rank No. 7 on the Panthers' all-time wins list.

Walker is tied for the school record in career doubles wins at 83. Maria McDonald also secured 83 career doubles wins from 1982-86.

Walker has teamed with junior Krissy Lankelma to go 21-7 this season at No. 1 doubles. The duo has posted a mark of 13-5 in dual action, including a 5-2 mark in league play.

UNI will be in action later today at 12:30 p.m. against Drake in the quarterfinals of the MVC Tournament in Wichita, Kan.
