MADISON, Wis. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up their final meet before the MVC Championships today at the Wisconsin Open. The meet was highlighted by Derek Kramer winning the 100 meter dash.
“This was a good tune-up meet for us one week out from the MVC Championships,” head coach Dan Steele said.
The junior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa finished the men’s 100 meter dash competition with a new personal-best time of 10.59. Christine MacNeill followed suit in the women’s 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a personal-best time of her own crossing the finish line in second place with a time of 14.21.
The Panthers throws crew had a strong outing at the Wisconsin Open with two athletes achieving personal-best throws in the discus. In the women’s competition, Chloe Schmidt set a new PR with a throw of 143-07 with Matt Schiffer adding a PR in the men’s competition with a toss of 166-08. In the women’s shot put, Kelsey Sukovaty gave another solid performance with a third place finish and throw of 50-06.25, followed by Jamie Lindstrom in fourth.
In the men’s 400 meter dash, Marshall Hill posted a strong time in the event, crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 49.39. Ryan Newtoff was the lone Panther competing in the 400 meter hurdles, tying his season-best time of 53.50.
Charles Brown competed for the first time in the long jump and triple jump since his successful indoor season. The freshman placed third in the long jump with a jump of 21-06.75 and notched a jump of 45-11.75 in the triple jump. In the women’s long jump, Tatiana Rice posted a strong jump of 17-02.00 for a third place finish.
UNI will return to action May 10-12 in Des Moines, Iowa when they compete in the 2013 MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
