LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Northern Iowa softball team fell to the No. 13-ranked Stanford Cardinal this evening, 4-1 in an NCAA Lincoln Regional elimination game.

UNI (27-26 overall) kept it close early but was unable to contain the Cardinal bats midway through the contest. Stanford generated four runs off six hits in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 advantage over the Panthers.

The Cardinal tallied eight infield singles in the game.

The Panthers struggled to find a rhythm at the plate collecting just four hits off Stanford starter Teagan Gerhart.

The Panthers’ lone run came in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Micalla Rettinger put the Panthers in scoring position with a double to centerfield – her third hit of the game. Jordyn Brunssen would pinch-run for Rettinger. Gina Brown followed with an RBI double to centerfield.

Junior Jamie Fisher took the loss for the Panthers as she went the distance giving up four runs and striking out seven. Fisher ends her season at 22-15.
