CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (May 20, 2013) – Learfield Sports has named Brian Gabel general manager for its Panther Sports Properties (PSP) entity, the multimedia rights holder for University of Northern Iowa Department of Athletics.

UNI alum Gabel returns to his alma mater from Drake University in Des Moines, where he served three years as general manager for the local multimedia rights holder, Drake IMG Sports Marketing. Prior to that, he served inside the athletic department as its director of athletic marketing. Gabel also has experience with Minnesota State Athletics, where he served as director of marketing and corporate partnerships, and as interim director of marketing and promotions before that. He earned his B.A. degree in marketing from UNI and his master’s of science degree in recreation and sports management from Indiana State. Gabel previously served with UNI athletics, as marketing assistant during his senior year.

“We are looking forward to Brian returning to his alma mater in this capacity,” UNI Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Panther Sports Properties has been a great partner with UNI athletics, and Brian's unique understanding of the institution, our community, and the Missouri Valley Conference will enhance our partnership, and bring added value to everyone invested in our programs.”

“Brian brings invaluable experience and an obvious affinity to our UNI property, and we’re happy to have him here leading the team and working with Troy and the entire athletics administration,” Learfield Sports’ Senior Vice President Bob Agramonte said.

In addition to UNI, Learfield Sports manages multimedia rights for more than 50 collegiate institutions and associations and titles the prestigious Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The company’s multimedia rights encompass numerous content distribution platforms to deliver the passion of college athletics across radio, television and digital networks to fans globally.
