DES MOINES, Iowa - Former UNI track and field athletes Tyler Mulder and Daniel Gooris wrapped up day two of the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with strong performances across the board.
Mulder competed in the 800 meter semi-finals, qualifying for the finals in the event for the third year in a row. Mulder improved his time from the preliminaries, placing second in his heat with a time of 1:45.24.
UNI decathlete Gooris opened up day one of the 10-event competition with the 100 meters, finishing with a time of 11.45. In the long jump, Gooris finished with a leap of 21-5.50 to finish 13th in the event.
Gooris placed in the top-10 in the shot put competition, notching 10th place with a throw of 43-7.25. He also placed 10th in the high jump, finishing with a height of 6-4.
Gooris rounded out the day's competition with a time of 50.57 in the 400 meter dash for a new outdoor season-high time. Gooris finished the day with a point total of 3,684.
Gooris will begin the second half of the decathlon tomorrow with the 110 meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m. Mulder will look to notch a spot on Team USA in the finals of the 800 meters at 3:13 p.m. on Sunday.
