DES MOINES, Iowa – Former UNI track and field athlete Tyler Mulder competed in the finals of the 800 meters today at the 2013 USA Track and Field Championships, placing fifth overall in the event with a solid time of 1:45.13.
In one of the fastest 800 meter finals in history, Mulder competed against the top-competition in the country. This year’s 800 meter finals tied the fastest US Championships for the top-three spots that was set during the 1992 Olympic Trials, with the third place runner finishing with a time of 1:43.97 in both years.
The eight-time All-American and 2008 NCAA Indoor 800 meter Champion started competing professionally for Oregon TC Elite in 2010 after graduating from UNI. He has competed in several international competitions, including breaking two personal records in 2012 in the 800 meters in Italy and the 1,500 meters in Oregon.
