UNI Honored By College Sports Madness All-MVFC Teams

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – College Sports Madness announced the 2013 Missouri Valley Football Conference Preseason All-Conference Teams today, with eight student-athletes from the University of Northern Iowa football team making the cut.

Both Brett LeMaster and Dan Kruger were named to the first team, while Sawyer Kollmorgen, David Johnson and Jake Farley were placed on the second team. Chad Owens, Jack Rummells and Xavier Williams landed third team honors for the Panthers to round out the preseason list for UNI.

The Panthers have been collecting awards this summer with several players earning preseason recognition. Kollmorgen, Johnson, LeMaster and Farley were all named to the College Football Performance Awards Watch Lists for their respective positions with Johnson also being named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List.

Kruger, Johnson, Rummells, LeMaster, Farley and Williams were also named to the 2013 Phil Steele Preseason All-MVFC Teams last week. Along with Johnson’s many other honors this preseason, the junior was named to The Sports Network Preseason All-American squad at the beginning of the month.

David Johnson finished last season with five multi-touchdown games and 1,021 rushing yards for 13 rushing touchdowns. He led the team in scoring with 108 points off of 18 total touchdowns. The junior finished the season leading the MVFC in scoring and was tied for fifth in the FCS in scoring with 9.82 points per game. Johnson is now 10th all-time at UNI in career touchdowns with 30 and ninth all-time in rushing touchdowns with 22.

The Panthers open the 2013 season on Aug. 31 when they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on the Iowa State Cyclones. The game is set to kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
