CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa football team will wear a decal on the back of its helmet this year showing an outline of state of Iowa with a Panther logo – the distinction being that UNI is the state of Iowa’s team.
Panther football can make that claim with 71 percent of its roster hailing from the state of Iowa. As a department, UNI has student-athletes representing more than half of the counties in the state of Iowa.
“The decal added this year is about more than athletics and roster numbers,” UNI Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “We are proud that the University Northern Iowa educates Iowans, and that 85 percent of our graduates return to Iowa’s workforce. Our helmets are meant to provide a simple, constant reminder of the University of Northern Iowa’s significant influence and continued impact in the economic, social and cultural environment of our great state.”
UNI has 92 percent of its total enrollment from the state of Iowa. More than 65,000 UNI alumni reside in the state of Iowa.
