CEDAR FALLS, Iowa- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept Green Bay 3-0 on Saturday night in the McLeod Center.
Eryca Hingtgen led the Panthers with 10 kills. Kinsey Caldwell had 34 assists and Amie Held tallied 13 digs for UNI.
The Panthers took the early 8-5 lead in the first set. Kills by Courtney Kintzel and Leigh Pudwill helped increase the Panthers lead to 12-7 at the first timeout of the set. UNI was unstoppable throughout the rest of the set and won it 25-14.
With the score tied at 5-5 in the second set, a kill by Eryca Hingtgen sparked a 7-1 run for the Panthers and gave them the 12-6 lead. Green Bay brought it back to within four at 17-13, but this was the closest they got to UNI. The Panthers won the set 25-16 to take the 2-0 match lead.
The score was tied at 6-6 in the third set when a Green Bay kill gave them the 7-6 lead. UNI answered with a kill by Courtney Kintzel helped spark a 4-0 run to give them the 10-7 lead. The Phoenix fought to eventually bring it back to within one at 16-15, but an attack error by Green Bay and a block by Courtney Kintzel and Macy Ubben helped increase the Panthers lead to 18-15. UNI held the lead the rest of the set and won it 25-19 and the match 3-0.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they take on Northern Illinois at 7 p.m. in DeKalb, Illinois.
