NORMAL, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, moving up eight spots after shooting a team score of 281 in the final round of play -- seven lower than any other team.
With every player shooting a 75 or lower in the third round, the Panthers were able to surmount a large comback in the event. Led by Ryan Horner's 69 and Kyle Driscoll and Michael Wetrich's 70s, UNI looked sharp on Monday. Dustin Atkinson also shot a tournament-best score for himself by carding a 72 while Jacob Bermel improved every round and finished with a 75 in the third round.
The Panthers' total score of 875 was 49 shots shots lower than their score at this event last season while their fourth place finish was eight spots higher than last year as well.
Looking to continue their great start to the season, UNI heads to Sioux Falls, S.D. to participate in the Jackrabbit Invitational next week.
