PEORIA, Ill.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept Bradley 3-0 Tuesday night in Peoria, Illinois. The Panthers are now 4-1 in the MVC while Bradley is 3-3.
Leigh Pudwill led the Panthers with 10 kills and Shelby Kintzel had a .429 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell recorded 36 kills and Amie Held tallied 18 digs for UNI.
The Panthers got out to en early 9-7 lead in the first set. Kills by Eryca Hingtgen, Courtney Kintzel and Leigh Pudwill helped UNI go on a 6-4 run to take the 15-11 lead at the first timeout. Bradley brought it back to within two at 16-14 but that was as close as they got to the Panthers. UNI won the set 25-18.
In the second set, UNI took the early lead again. The Panthers had the 12-8 lead, but Bradley slow started to work their way back until they tied the set at 19-19. A block by Shelby Kintzel and Pudwill in the next play gave UNI the 20-19 lead, but Bradley answered with a kill in the next play to tie it up at 20-20. The score went back and forth until the set was finally tied at 23-23. An attack error by Bradley and a kill by Pudwill gave the Panthers the 25-23 set win and the 2-0 match lead.
UNI took control of third set early on and kept it throughout. The score was 12-10, UNI, when a kill by Macy Ubben helped spark a 8-3 run to give the Panthers the 20-13 lead. UNI held onto the lead and won the set 25-18 to win the match 3-0.
The Panthers return to action Friday night when they travel to Indiana to take on Evansville at 7:00.
