CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Junior linebacker Jake Farley and senior defensive lineman Collin Albrecht were both named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team, representing District 6. Farley and Albrecht are two of 24 football student-athletes chosen out of District 6 for the distinction.
Farley, a finance major with a 3.72 GPA, and Albrecht, a biochemistry major with a 3.55 GPA, join 12 former Panther football players that have been awarded the recognition, including head coach Mark Farley. The last time the Panthers’ had a player on the Academic All-District list was in 2011 when Ben Boothby was named to the District 7 team.
This is Albrecht’s second academic achievement in his career after receiving the 2012-13 MVC President’ Academic Award, the highest academic recognition by the conference. This is Farley’s first academic award as a Panther.
Albrecht, the Panthers’ starting defensive lineman, has started in eight games this season and has racked up 25 tackles. The senior leads the team in tackles for loss with 11 for a loss of 85 yards. He also leads the team in sacks with seven for a loss of 55 yards. He is currently ranked 10th in the FCS and second in the MVFC in pass sacks.
Farley started in five games this season prior to suffering a season-ending injury against North Dakota State. The junior from Cedar Falls, Iowa notched 56 tackles on the season, including two for a loss of eight yards. He also grabbed his first career touchdown against McNeese State, returning a fumble recovery for 20 yards into the end zone.
