Starting with the team’s game Nov. 9 at Ohio, this year’s UNI men’s basketball games can be heard on the UNI Sports Radio Network, with KXEL (1540 AM, Waterloo, Iowa) serving as flagship station. Brad Wells will call Saturday's game at George Mason, while Kevin Boyle will serve as analyst.
• The University of Northern Iowa men’s basketball team (1-1 overall) will hit the road for its second road trip of the season on Saturday when the Panthers play at George Mason (2-0 overall). Tip is slated for 3 p.m. (CT) at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.
• The game will be broadcast live on 1330-AM KWLO and on the Panther Sports Radio Network. Brad Wells (play-by-play) and Kevin Boyle (analyst) will call the action courtside in Fairfax.
• UNI and George Mason have met twice previously with the road team winning each encounter. George Mason scored a 77-71 win over UNI in the McLeod Center (Feb. 19, 2011) in a BracketBusters matchup. UNI returned the favor last year (Dec. 8, 2012) when the Panthers scored an 82-77 overtime win the Patriot Center - snapping GMU’s 14-game home-court winning streak.
• UNI evened is record at 1-1 with an 86-52 win over Coe College on Monday in its home opener.
• Senior forward Chip Rank leads the Panthers in scoring through two games at 16.0 points per game. Rank scored 14 at Ohio and a career-high 18 against Coe.
• UNI has made at least one 3-pointer in 431 consecutive games - the longest active streak in the Missouri Valley Conference.
• UNI is 27-1 all-time when scoring 80 or more points under head coach Ben Jacobson. The Panthers have won 22 straight games when scoring 80 or more points.
RANK OFF TO A GREAT START
Senior forward Chip Rank leads the Panthers in scoring at 16.0 points per game through the first two contests.
Rank scored 14 in the season-opener at Ohio. Rank then poured in a career-high 18 points in only 13 minutes of action against Coe.
It marks the third time that Rank has scored double figures in back-to-back games in his Panther career.
Rank also scored back-to-back double-figure games twice in the 2011-12 season. He had 10 points vs. Colorado State (12/3/11) and 10 points vs. Iowa (12/6/11). Rank scored 10 points vs. Illinois State (2/11/12) and 10 more points against Evansville (2/15/12).
GMU has opened the season with a pair of wins.
Trailing in their opener vs. American with less than five minutes to play, Mason used an 11-3 run to close the game and take the win, 63-60.
The Patriots scored a 68-54 road win at Lamar on Tuesday.
GMU is led in scoring by Bryon Allen (14.0 ppg), Sherrod Wright (13.0 ppg) and Marko Gujanicic (12.0 ppg).
The Patriots are coached by Paul Hewitt. Hewitt is in his third season as the GMU head coach. Hewitt also faced the UNI Panthers in the 2004 NCAA Tournament when he served as the Georgia Tech head coach. Georgia Tech scored a 65-60 win over the UNI Panthers in the first round of the 2004 NCAAs.
FOUR TRUE NON-CONF ROAD GAMES
UNI will play four true road non-conference games prior to Jan. 1 for only the third time in head coach Ben Jacobson’s tenure with the Panthers.
The Panthers will travel to Ohio (Nov. 9), George Mason (Nov. 16), Milwaukee (Dec. 3) and Virginia (Dec. 21) prior to Jan. 1.
The two previous times the Panthers have played four true non-conference road games before Jan. 1 in the Jacobson era occurred in the 2006-07 season (Washington, Bucknell, Iowa, Loyola) and in the 2010-11 season (Syracuse, Milwaukee, TCU, Iowa).
Three of UNI’s opponents this season are ranked in both the USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll and the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
VCU is ranked No. 14, Wichita State is No. 16 and Virginia is No. 25.
FOUR YEARS OF POSTSEASON WINS
UNI is one of 11 NCAA Division I teams to have won a postseason game in each of the last four seasons.
Joining UNI on the list is Butler, BYU, Creighton, Gonzaga, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, Purdue, Syracuse and VCU.
UNI’S 3-POINT STREAK

Senior guard Matt Morrision scored 10 points in the Panthers’ 86-52 win over Coe.
It marked the fourth time in Morrison’s career that he reached double-figure scoring in a single game. He scored a career-high 14 points against Iowa State (11/30/11) and Wartburg (11/10/12).

The UNI bench outscored Coe’s bench, 57-21, in the Panthers’ season opener on Nov. 11 in the McLeod Center.
