CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Junior Tate Omli has been honored by the MVFC and College Sports Madness for his career-high performance against the Missouri State Bears on Saturday.

The junior college transfer from Brookville, Kan. Has been named the MVFC Defensive Player of the Week, along with being named the College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Week. These are Omli’s first Player of the Week honors this season.

Omli notched a career and game-high 17 tackles against Missouri State. He was just two shy of tying for 10th all-time at UNI in single-game total tackles.

He also notched two key interceptions during the game, making his first two of the season. His second interception happened in the fourth quarter after MSU tried to convert on a fourth-and-four with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Omli came up with the interception, giving UNI the ball back to extinguish the time remaining on the clock to pick up the 17-10 victory.

Omli now has 50 tackles on the season, along with 27 return yards off of his two interceptions. Omli and the Panthers will return to action for the regular season finale against Western Illinois on Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome.
