SEATTLE, Wa.- University of Northern Iowa middle blocker Shelby Kintzel earned American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Honorable Mention All-America. This is the first time Kintzel has received this honor.
Kintzel finished the 2013 season averaging 2.71 kills per set, 0.95 blocks per set, and a .308 hitting percentage in the 2013 season. She earned MVC Scholar-Athlete first team honors for the third time in her career as well as All-MVC first team status for the second year in a row.
Kintzel was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District volleyball team, representing District VI, for the second time in her career. She was also named to the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region first team and to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I volleyball first team. Kintzel finished her career tied for sixth all-time at UNI in sets played (475). She also finished 10th all-time at UNI in both block solos (62) and in total blocks (446).
Kintzel finished her five year Panther career with a 142-26 overall playing record and an impressive 84-6 record in the Missouri Valley Conference, including three MVC undefeated seasons. During that time, the Panthers earned four MVC regular season championships and three MVC Tournament titles. They had four NCAA Tournament appearances, three of which went into the second round.
