MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 7-0 decision to the Eastern Michigan Eagles at the Baseline Tennis Center on Monday.
UNI head coach Daniel Finn said that despite falling to 0-2 on the young season, he was happier with what he saw today from his squad.
"A positive takeaway from today is that the girls are beginning to buy into the process, we are just not there yet," Finn said. "But anytime you see growth with a young team you have to at least be happy with that. We just have to keep pushing forward and trying to improve."
The Panthers did capture a victory at No. 2 doubles behind the play of Elvira Lopez and Astrid Santos. The Panthers' duo tallied a 6-2 victory over EMU's Diana Davitaia and Maria Paula Ribero.
Lopez also pushed Nino Mubuke to a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. Lopez won the first set, 6-4. Mubuke was able to post a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker to claim the victory.
UNI will play host to its first home dual of the season this Friday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. UNI will take on Southeast Missouri State at 4 p.m.
