MANHATTAN, Kan. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team captured the doubles' point off No. 55 Kansas State on Friday but the Wildcats eventually scored a 6-1 victory over the Panthers.

"The ladies really came out to fight today and played strong and disciplined doubles," head coach Daniel Finn said. "They followed the game plan and executed in the big moments. We can definitely see the growth and improvement they are making. We took the fight to Kansas Sate but we have to give credit to them - because they are No. 55 in the nation for a reason. We will use this as a lesson and continue to get better."

UNI's No. 3 doubles pairing of Krissy Lankelma and Sydney Wolfe were able to break serve in the ninth game and took a 5-4 lead over Livia Cirnu and Amina St. Hill. Lankelma was able to hold serve and closed out the match, 6-4.

UNI's No. 2 doubles team of Elvira Lopez and Astrid Santos scored a 6-4 win over Kansas State's Maria Panaite and Iva Bago. Lopez and Santos held serve to take a 5-4 lead on a winner from Lopez. The Panthers then closed it out with a break of serve to clinch the doubles' point.

The Panthers will be in action again next Friday at home against the University of North Dakota. UNI and UND will get underway at 3:30 p.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
