EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team captured its first road win of the season Sunday with a 7-0 win over the University of Southern Indiana.
The Panthers (10-10 overall) had started the season with 10 consecutive road defeats prior to today's 7-0 victory. Southern Indiana dropped to 6-13 on the season.
UNI started strong in doubles by taking all three doubles matches and dropped only four games in the process. UNI senior Krissy Lankelma notched her 82nd career doubles victory - moving her within one of the school record of 83 held by Phoebe Walker (2009-2013).
"We got that road-win monkey off our back," UNI head coach Daniel Finn said. "The team played really well and relaxed this afternoon. They did a great job of just getting out of their own way and just playing tennis. When we play that like we can be a tough team to play. The team is starting to really come together. Once this talented team of young players comes together and believes like we are starting to - we will be tough to handle."
UNI will return home for a pair of matches this Saturday and Sunday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. UNI will take on Illinois State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers will then close out the home portion of the schedule on Sunday at 10 a.m. vs. Bradley.
