The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team will take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 10 a.m. Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference championship tournament in Normal, Ill.
The Panthers (12-11 overall, 2-4 MVC) earned the No. 4 seed for the tournament. The Redbirds (9-9 overall, 2-4 MVC) tallied the No. 5 seed. Evansville also finished tied for fourth place in the final MVC standings but fell to the No. 6 seed based on the tiebreaker.
UNI scored a 6-1 victory over Illinois State on April 12 at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
The winner of the UNI-Illinois State match will take on No. 1-seeded Wichita State in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. The MVC Championship match is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m.
Illinois State is serving as the tournament host. All matches will be played at the Gregory Street courts in Normal.
NOTES: UNI has reached the MVC Tournament championship on two occasions - 2005 and 2009 ... UNI lost to Illinois State in 2005 final ... UNI lost to Wichita State in the 2009 final.
