University of Northern Iowa head women’s tennis coach Daniel Finn announced the signing of Savanna Hunt to play for the Panthers beginning this fall.
“We are excited to have Savanna join the UNI women’s tennis program,” Finn said. “She is an athlete. When you put her athletic ability into play with her desire to compete on a daily basis – her best tennis is in front of her and that is what coaches want at this level. I am looking forward to seeing the player that she will turn into during her time at UNI.”
Hunt (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley HS) is ranked No. 2 in the state of Iowa’s USTA rankings. She also ranks No. 26 in the USTA’s Plains rankings, which includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota and South Dakota. Hunt is ranked No. 531 nationally, up 309 spots from the previous year. Hunt played her freshman year at Pleasant Valley High School and placed No. 8 in the state.
“I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of the UNI Panther women’s tennis team next season,” Hunt said. “I’m excited to join a team where most of the team is young and doing so well. Along with that, Coach Finn is a great leader. The coaching staff has a very positive motivating attitude and will give constructive instruction – that makes this a rare find and an incredible opportunity for me.”
Earlier this spring, Finn announced the signing of Gisela Kemper (Volendam, The Netherlands).
