ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program landed 12 student-athletes on the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete teams, it was announced today by the league office.
Forty men and 46 women were named to this year’s MVC Scholar-Athlete team. This honor is given to student-athletes who have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA, are at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and placed in the top eight at the Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
On the men’s side, seniors Ben Lindaman and Adam McDonnell turned in their third consecutive appearance on the Scholar-Athlete team. McDonnell was also honored with the MVC President’s Council Academic Excellence Award last summer, which is the highest academic achievement in the MVC.
Seniors Calvin Kibby and Matt Schiffer were also named to the Scholar-Athlete team, with Schiffer grabbing his first-career Scholar-Athlete honor. Sebastian Barth and Cam Brown also got named to the team for the second year in a row. Sophomore Weston Riesselman rounded out the men honorees, picking up his first MVC academic recognition.
The women notched five spots on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team this season, with junior Jamie Lindstrom leading the way with her second consecutive season earning the honor.
