PHILEDELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Northern Iowa football team has landed two student-athletes on the 2012 College Sports Journal preseason Football Championship Subdivision All-America squad, it was announced today.
Both junior placekicker Tyler Sievertsen and senior long snapper John Hubbard made the preseason All-America third team. This is Hubbard's first preseason honor for the 2012 season while this counts as Sievertsen's seventh preseason honor.
Sievertsen earned four All-America distinctions following the 2011 season - his first as the Panthers' starting kicker. In addition to a first-team selection by BSN last season, Sievertsen was a Phil Steele second-team nod, a second-team All-American by The Sports Network and a third-team pick by the Associated Press.
Sievertsen connected on 18-of-20 field goal attempts for the year, ranking No. 2 in the nation with 90 percent accuracy. He was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference pick and three-time MVFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hubbard saw action in all 13 games for UNI last season. He recorded two solo and one assisted tackle on the year. In 2010, Hubbard helped placekicker Billy Hallgren earn first team All-MVFC honors with 15 made field goals.
Hubbard, Sievertsen and the rest of the UNI Panthers open their season against Big Ten foe Wisconsin on Sept. 1 in Madison, Wisc. The game is set to kick-off at 2:30 p.m. CT.
