Panthers Travel to Drake for Regular Season Finale

The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to square off with Drake University on Thurs., Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.  The match up with Drake is the last regular season game for the Panthers.  UNI is looking for their first winning season since the 2003 campaign.

Scouting the Opponents

The Drake University Bulldogs (3-10-4, 1-4-0 MVC) are currently riding a five game losing streak.  The Bulldog offensive attack is led by Laura Moklestad with three goals and one assist on the year.  Danielle Figliola and Tara Zika each have notched two goals on the season for Drake.  The Bulldog goalkeeper Kalena Litch has played all but ten minutes this season for Drake, tallying 119 saves for a goals-against average of 1.43 and one shutout.  Head coach Lindsey Horner is in her fourth season with the Bulldogs, posting a 25-23-7 all-time record. 

Panthers Working Efficiently

UNI has been outshot by opponents 247-188 this season but lead opponents in shots on goal 107-104, hold the advantage in shot percentage .106 to the opponents .089, and the Panthers have outshot their opponents 5-4 in overtime periods.  The Panthers also hold the advantage in corner kicks 77-62. 

Sharing the Ball

Eight different Panthers have found the back of the net in 2011.  The goals have come off of assists from seven different players.  11 Panthers have tallied at least one point this season with junior Ashley Capone leading the way with 10 points.   

Home Field Advantage

The 2010 squad posted a 2-6-1 home record.  This season the Panthers posted a  6-3-1 record at home.  It was the first time since 2003 that UNI finished with a winning record at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.  This year UNI has given up an average of 0.8 goals per match at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.  Last season the squad gave up an average of 2.11 goals per match.

First Five Game Winning Streak in Program History

The Panthers went on their first-ever five game winning streak. The streak lasted from Oct. 7 through Oct. 19 and included a streak of four straight shutouts. UNI picked up wins over California State University, Bakersfield, Indiana State, Evansville, South Dakota, and St. Ambrose.
