University of Northern Iowa senior Jarred Herring and sophomore Derek Kramer have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team for the 2011 season, the USTFCCCA announced Wednesday.
Herring earned the All-Academic recognition by holding a cumulative grade point average of 3.61 and qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a member of UNI's 4x100m relay team. In the Spring 2011 semester, Herring posted a 4.00 GPA as a double major in psychology and family services.
Herring (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington HS) anchored the UNI 4x100m relay team to a Missouri Valley Conference title and an NCAA Championships berth, while also claiming the MVC crown in the 100m dash.
Kramer (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier HS) owns a 3.26 cumulative GPA with an exercise science major and also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the Panthers' 4x100m relay team.
The women's All-Academic individual honorees will be named tomorrow by the USTFCCCA. Those institutions given All-Academic Team status will be named on Wednesday, August 10 (men) and Thursday, August 11 (women).
