The University of Northern Iowa women's track & field team has earned All-Academic status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2011 season, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday.
The UNI women own a cumulative team grade point average of 3.42, which is good enough to tie them for the 20th-best GPA among all Division I teams. Eighteen women's track & field student-athletes currently possess a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better, with 11 owning a mark of 3.75 or better.
"As a coaching staff, we are extremely proud of our student-athletes' academic performance," said UNI head track & field coach Dan Steele. "This recognition falls right in line with the vision of our athletic department and of the university as a whole."
The Panther men were named an All-Academic team by the USTFCCCA yesterday. Last week, five UNI student-athletes (Holli Hosch, Traci Harms, Jenna Wexter, Kelsey Sukovaty and Jarred Herring) were also recognized as All-Academic performers.
